Touch the Earth

‘We first knew you a feeble plant which wanted a little earth whereon to grow. We gave it to you, and afterward, where we could have trod you; under our feet, we watered and protected you; and now you have grown to be a mighty tree, whos top replaces the clouds and whos branches overspread the whole land. We, who were the tall pine in the forest, have become a feeble plant and need your protection’,

(Red Jacket- Seneca Chief, from‘Touch the Earth’.)

I had the most healing yet emotional day yesterday. I got outdoors for over two hours. I’ve literally felt like a prisoner in my own home and needed to get out there in a bad way. To watch the sun illumunating the leaves, to have birds land closeby, feeding on seedheads.. to watch a baby spider as it crawlled up my walker, and then my hand. I thought my heart would burst from the sheer beauty of things I have taken for granted in the past. Part of me wanted to take off my shoes, to feel the cool ground under my feet, I did the next best thing. I touched the earth.. and in return it touched me.
