I took the above image a couple years ago from a local e hospital parking lot..my face was being pelted by a strong blizzard but I witnessed something quite magical.. the waxwings were snatching huge snowflakes out of the air. There were dozens of them, perched in a floweing crab tree and so many passed them by without even noticing… but not moi. I was completely enchanted.. I love waxings but have only seen a few at our pond. The only flowering tree we have is our dogwoods. That is soon to change.

I ordered a native floweriing crabapple tree today.. one that will bloom next spring. i can’t wait! Deep rich pink flowers and more importantly a natural food sorce for many of mt berry eating winged friends. In the future we plan on plnting balsam fir and seviceberry tress in one of our clearings.. to keep a bit of the privacy we have left and also for birds to feed from/roost in during our cold winter season. Waxings can.will strp these trees clean in a short time and our long winters are hard on all animals.. I won’t mind if the deer stand up for a snack.. they need it too :)
