Month of the Flower (And New Birdsongs) Moon

‘If you’ve never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom. ‘

(Audra Foveo)

Although we still have quite a bit of snowcover in our woods, small areas of earth are becoming more visible each day- and we have a few crocus plants peeking up through the leaf litter. Red-winged blackbirds and Common grackles arrived over the past 2 weeks and the familiar konk-la-reee voices fill the brisk air, along with many other sweet songs of spring. Turkey vultures are soaring overhead and duck species are beginning to show up on many streams and rivers. We still have 100’s of common and hoary redpolls covering the thistle feeders and my hubby continues to see many Northern Shrikes on his field trips with Phoebe. Winter has had a very strong grip this year and our local deer are very desperate for food, as was the beautiful Barred owl we watched hunting last week.. but spring is oh so slowly making itself known and none too soon.

I’ve been meaning to update the template for this blog for a quite a few weeks now- the older version was too difficult for me to read my own typing, so hopefully this lighter version will help in that respect. I seem to have lost my last 2-3 posts/comments, and have many plugins and alot of tweaking to do yet.. but since I’m once again moving a bit slow with multiple bone fractures, I have plenty of time to get them done- and plenty of time to revel in this most wondrous season we call spring.
Enjoy! The earth awakens in glorious celebration and invites us to do the same.

How I miss the appearance of spring from a true winter! I remember the crocuses peeping through the snow in CT. This is a lovely photo, Cindy! We too have signs of a changing season - the Grackles are back, the Turkey Vultures are also soaring here, and the Phainopeplas sit high in the mesquite trees. A friend showed me a hummingbird’s nest with two little ones in it in her side yard. Your blog is bright and beautiful. I do enjoy. I pray for your strengthening and healing, dear friend.
